Open Studios

A couple of times a year, we open our studio doors for drop-in appointments. Come see our creative process and inspirations firsthand, and have your garment embroidered on the spot!

We're opening the studio doors again!

After a long break and plenty of creative planning, we're thrilled to announce the return of our much-loved Open Studio. We're setting things up for April and spaces will be limited, so if you'd like early access or just want to stay in the loop, click below!

What to expect?

This is a rare chance to spend an hour with us right where we design, draw, and chainstitch every day. It’s not a pop-up or a polished showroom. It’s our actual studio and workspace, filled with vintage inspirations, sketches, tests, and embroidered pieces. It’s a one-on-one session to personalise a garment with something considered and unique.

What's the story with the Open Studios?

The Open Studio began as a way for us to slow down and connect with the process, our craft, and the people who follow and support what we do.

In our day-to-day, we focus on large commissions and collaborative brand projects, which means we don’t usually offer smaller customisations on personal garments. These events are our way of creating space for exactly that, welcoming you into our colourful studio in South East London.

What makes it so special?

We’re the only studio in the UK and Europe offering this kind of experience. We don’t do digital embroidery, we don’t outsource any aspect of our work, and we don’t rush. Every piece is designed in-house and stitched using original vintage chainstitch machines, just as it was done nearly a century ago.

Because it's hosted in our own studio, we have access to our full range of tools and references, which means there’s often more room to explore design ideas or adapt details together if time and scope allow.

If you’re thinking of something special for yourself or someone you care about, this is a rare opportunity to create something meaningful in person.

Prices for personalisations on the day:

  • Initials on your garments - £20

  • One name or word on your garment - £25

  • Two names or words on your garment - From £37+

  • Illustrated placements on garments - From £37+

  • We will be also selling one-off and limited-edition patches and customisables, with prices ranging from £25, £37, £55+

  • If we run out of time when embroiderying your custom patch, we can still make it for you later and ship it to you at no cost.

What can I have chainstitched?

We can work on many types of garments. Denim jackets, heavier jackets, chore coats, shirts, and sweatshirts work especially well, but feel free to bring something personally meaningful. If you’re uncertain, give us a shout ahead of time and we’ll make sure you're covered.

Design-wise, you might come in wanting initials, a small motif, a conversational or statement piece, or something that quietly ties a piece together. Once you’re here, you can also choose from a curated range of pre-made original figurative and typographic designs, which we update seasonally. These are ready-to-go, charming ideas that we know will work beautifully. They also help keep things streamlined, so you don’t have to start from scratch unless you want to.

We also have a range of original custom patches that you can order during your visit.

How many pieces can we do during the event?

We usually suggest our clients bring multiple garments. The main benefit is to have multiple options to consider while you are here. And while we normally manage to focus on one to two pieces, depending on our availability, we might be able to embroider extra pieces and ship them back to you.

What we don’t offer during Open Studio events:

  • Large and Intricate Placements - Due to time constraints during events, we can't tackle these. However, if you're interested, you can enquire here. Please note that commissions start at £500 for a bespoke piece, designed and embroidered by us. If you’d like to run an idea past before the event, you can reach us here.

  • Bulk Garment Embroidery - In a 1-hour slot, we can typically embroider up to 2 pieces. While we always try to accommodate as many pieces as possible within the hour, our primary focus is on delivering an enjoyable and memorable experience.

  • Branding for Marketing Campaigns - Our Open Studio plan lies in crafting light-hearted and personal meaningful pieces. While we value brand collaborations, these events aren't the right setting for producing promotional or advertising campaigns pieces.

Testimonials

“What a privilege to visit Giulio in his studio this morning!

I think Giulio's skill and dedication to his craft is plenty evident in his (Instagram) posts but seeing him at work and having a go myself on that very tricky machine and viewing the wondrous collection of machines that Giulio has sourced and painstakingly restored was so impressive!!

Giulio you really are a genius!”

“I am soooo glad I came today, sometimes the distance and time put you off making the effort. It was such a great experience to meet you, see you work and hear the story of how it all came to be!

Thank you so much for creating something I will treasure and will hopefully become part of my heritage!”

“Giulio! We just woke up and we are still in awe about meeting you yesterday - it was such a special occasion for us to meet you and receiving the honour to getting to know you through your life stories, all the turns, bits and pieces, your work, your approach to life…

…everything was so special.”
